Merging tech with sustainability to move at pace: The people in this room have the brains to drive incredible change. If you talk to climate scientists, they would say we need to move faster, faster, faster. The only sector that can move that fast is the tech sector. The merging of these two groups of experts is where the answer lies, and the money is to be made. The tech space is huge. The time to act is now: We all want a future where humanity continues to thrive and create. Hard to execute. We‘re talking about doing things completely different than we’ve ever done, relearning old behaviors, learning new behaviors. It‘s never easy to shift, but the reasons couldn’t be bigger, the urgency couldn‘t be greater. We just must. The opportunity of AI: Something exciting this week has been seeing all the innovation around AI. While we know there are environmental implications of AI, there is also huge opportunity to increase efficiencies, use resources in a smarter, better, safer way, and empower people. I am an optimist in the fact that technology is where we’re going to find the innovations and unlock what will allow us to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change and adapt to our new and changing world. Decisions that lead to positive outcomes: What we need to know as leaders is, these are the outcomes I want to see in the world. I want to see a safer place for my children. I want to have a healthy planet. I want to be able to go outside and breathe clean air. What are the decisions I make every day in my business life that allow that to happen while taking care of my customers, my employees, all my people? Sustainability baked into business: Baking sustainability into the centre of your business will attract talent because the kids are angry. They do not feel we are responding with the urgency needed for this crisis they are inheriting. If you‘re thinking about your future employees, investors and customers, you need to be thinking about climate.
